Cambridge Pre-A1 Starters Preparation Courses

Our exam preparation courses for kids use the Cambridge Young Learners English programmes to provide a solid foundation for children to become confident in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Divided into 3 levels (Starters, Movers, and Flyers), we offer opportunities for young learners of different language proficiency to advance and effectively use English in real-world situations. Supportive teachers and engaging materials create an enjoyable environment where children have fun while learning and growing.

Students per class: 12 maximum

Levels: Pre-A1 Starters, A1 Movers, A2 Flyers

Age: 6 to12 years old

Placement test: free oral and written placement test at the school or online.

Topics

Lesson topics revolve around familiar situations that children may encounter at home, at school and in the real world.

Students

Students come from all over the world, and your child will experience a truly international environment where it will be possible to practise English with children from different countries and be exposed to diverse customs and cultures.

Teachers

Our teachers are highly qualified Cambridge CELTA or DELTA graduates from English speaking countries like the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, etc. They specialise in young learner pedagogy, and they aim to create a relaxed and supportive atmosphere where children enjoy learning and feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Awards

Upon completion, your child will receive a Certificate of Attendance from International House Bangkok stating the focus and duration of the course, and the highest level achieved. Students may also decide to take the official Cambridge Young Learners exam and therefore be awarded an internationally recognised certificate.

Our approach to second language learning and teaching emphasizes communication and meaningful interaction as the main goals of instruction, with a focus on developing learners’ ability to use language for real-life purposes.

Communication: learning a language requires language use and not only language study. Communication should be the goal of language instruction.

Interaction: authentic and meaningful communication can only be achieved through interaction. Pair and group work should be prioritized in classroom activities.

Context: learners should be made aware of how to use language accurately and fluently, but also in a way that conforms to social and contextual norms.

Integration: competent language users are able to use all the language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Instruction on these skills should be integrated from the beginning.

Errors: language learning is a process of creative construction and involves trial and error. Errors should be viewed as stepping stones for development.

Materials: classroom materials and activities should reflect real-life situations and tasks, with a focus on social functions as well as linguistic structures.

Teachers: teachers should be viewed as facilitators and use their skills to manage interactions among learners while providing the necessary input and feedback.

Motivation: motivation plays a critical role in the successful acquisition of a foreign language. Classroom activities should reflect the interests and wants of the learners.

Personalisation: every learner is different and individual learning needs and preferences should be given priority when planning and delivering lesson.

Group Classes – On Saturday

Our Group Classes provide a comprehensive focus on all four language skills, including speaking, listening, reading and writing, along with grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

Following the Cambridge Young Learners curriculum, the course emphasizes effective communication and practical activities which will enable your child to use English in real-world situations confidently and accurately. The group environment will also equip your child with useful social and life skills.

Classes are limited to a maximum of 12 students, ensuring personalized feedback and ample practice. Classes take place once a week on Saturday to allow children to maximise their learning during their free time.

At the end of the course, there is also the opportunity to take the official Cambridge Young Learners test and receive an internationally recognized certificate of language proficiency.

Summer Camps – During school holidays

Our Summer Camps are designed to provide a full-immersion experience that aims to expose children to as much English as possible in a short time and thus expedite their learning and progress. Courses foster the development of all four language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing, while also improving grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.

Based on the Cambridge Young Learners curriculum, courses prioritize practical activities and effective communication, empowering your child to confidently and accurately use English in real-life situations. Additionally, the group learning environment will provide valuable social and life skills for your child’s future.

Classes have a maximum capacity of 12 students to optimise opportunities for practice and ensure every student can receive personal attention and feedback. Courses are held during school breaks, enabling children to constructively employ their free time and holidays.

Summer Camps are the ideal choice if you want to give your child an English language immersion experience and accelerate their progress.

Pre-A1 Starters, formerly known as Cambridge English: Starters (YLE Starters)

This is the first step in the Cambridge English Qualifications for Young Learners and it is designed for beginners (CEFR Pre A1).
